Chameleon

This past Saturday Brad, neighbor Jeff, Harper and I went to a fundraiser for a dog rescue organization. Our friend and amateur photographer, Ashlie, got some great photos of Harper while we were there.

She took much better pictures once we got her out of the stroller.

I swear, I cannot tell at all what color her hair is going to be. Sometimes it looks golden, other times it’s dark and here it has a lot of red in it. It’s the strangest thing! I'm taking bets now for final color, by the way. Winner gets a lock from her first haircut (so you've got plenty of time to mail in your entry).

Photogenic

I wish these photos were better but I think the color is lovely and they do seem to have a sort of ethereal quality to them. Either that or it’s just that she is so stinking wiggly.

And yes, her eyes are still REALLY blue. I cannot believe I have a blue eyed kid.

Take Two

So it turns out Harper has an oatmeal allegy. The morning after her first meal she awoke at 5:00 a.m. with a nasty rash akin to a sunburn. So no more oatmeal for Harper, at least for the time being.
No matter, now we’re on to quinoa (!) which has been a big hit. She is so interested in it that she actually grabs the spoon to get into her mouth faster. She’s one happy kid!

And that’s not the only thing she finds tasty. She has also found her meal-time wardrobe to be a satisfying snack between mouthfulls.

On the menu for this week: avocado, green beans, carrots and pasta!

In My Imagination

What I have to do today:
Clean the litter boxes, wash the dishes, clean the kitchen, walk the dogs, do two loads of laundry, wait for the pediatrician to call back, medicate and bathe Harper, meet with the roofer to go over his estimate, put up signs in the neighborhood for this weekend’s egg hunt, fill out and FAX three prescription claims to our insurance company, install the diaper nozzle to the toilet, disassemble and put away the Pack and Play, put the company bedding in storage, pay the bills and go grocery shopping.

Oatmeal Bath

Harper had her first taste of food today. I thought if she was hungry when we started it would go a little smoother. Boy was I wrong. She started crying and within seconds I had a front row seat to a full blown baby meltdown.
It went better later, after I took a break to nurse her.  Luckily Brad missed the whole thing because he had to be at work. So I took some pictures.

It’s a good thing oatmeal is healthy for the skin because most of it ended up on her instead of in her. It seems I haven’t scarred her for life afterall.

Then again, there’s always tomorrow…

Heirloom

Brad’s maternal grandmother passed away in 1980. Before she passed she knitted a tiny yellow sweater for an as-of-yet unidentified grandchild. Brad’s Aunt Carol found it among her treasures and mailed it to us for Harper to wear. Her only request was that we send her a picture of Harper in it.
Brad’s parents came to Florida to visit us this week. Who are we trying to kid?... they came to see Harper.  It was perfect timing because the sweater just fits her. On their last day here we had a photo shoot on our front porch with Harper in her little yellow sweater.

So enjoy, Aunt Carol! These are for you.
