Fashionista

I was perfectly fine having Harper spend this evening in her skivvies but she insisted on getting dressed. After consulting her closet, she picked out a 100% organic cotton Cal Poly Organic Farm T-shirt (thank you, Tara!), floral surf shorts and her pink suede sneakers. Now she is walking around patting her belly and repeating, “cute, cute,” over and over.

P.S. New to Harper’s repertoire today: “I’m busy” and “See ya!”

Jimmy Legs

Brad caught Harper's mad dance moves on camera this morning. She is a little obsessive about They Might Be Giant's "Zeroes" recently. The video is virtually on repeat in the mornings around here. And when she hears that sultry samba beat, she can't control her dancin' feet.

Happy Father's Day!

Craft Itch

Don't tell Harper but I think I'm going to roll up my sleeves and try to make one of these for her. Isn't this just the most clever idea you've ever seen? Thanks, Craft Interrupted!

Book Worm

Oh, I wish I could take a picture of this! (but our camera is much too noisy and would wake her).

Harper was too worked up this afternoon to take a nap (which she DESPERATELY needed) so I finally filled her crib with her favorite toys and books and left her alone to exhaust herself. After about an hour it was quiet so I went in to check on her. I found her toys thrown all over the room and she was (and still is) splayed out, totally asleep... with one book open and across her chest and another across her legs. I guess she decided to sleep under a book blanket.

Sweet dreams, my little book worm.

Attn: Grandparents

Some of you have been requesting gift ideas for Harper. Here is a (short) list of some items I know she’d like but we’ll never purchase for her. I hope this helps!

Gymboree Bubble Ooodles with Wand and Tray - 4oz

I’ll be honest; I just can’t bring myself to spend $20 on bubbles. But the Gymboree Bubble Ooodles really are THE BEST BUBBLES EVER. And Harper LOVES, LOVES, LOVES these (They use them at her library programs as well as her Music and More class. Consequently, she refers to our librarian, Miss Alyssa, as “Bubble Lady”.). So if you feel like splurging these are a winner.

Star Magic’s Twinkle Rainbow Disco Ball Projector

This thing is just plain crazy and bordering on obnoxious but would be perfect for Harper’s one woman dance parties (and we all know how cute she is when she dances). So if you’re looking for a passive-aggressive way to both thrill Harper while simultaneously annoying her parents, this is the way to go.

Lakeshore’s Turn & Learn Magnetic Gears

This is just too frivolous for us to purchase (we are stingy, stingy parents) but Harper is mesmerized by it every time we go to the Lakeshore store. I know she’d be tickled to have one. And, admittedly, they are pretty cool.
Of course, one can never have too many art supplies or books. And you can never go wrong with the sentimental gifts, like hand written letters on her birthday (I’m saving them all for her to enjoy as she grows up) or photos of you so she can see her grandparents.
I’m sure you have some better ideas than I do. Thanks for thinking of our little love bug!

Make-Believe Ballerina

I found the most amazingly cute, brand-new ballet slippers at the second hand baby store this week... and they were in Harper's size!!! Add some tights (in Ballet Pink, of course) and a black leotard and, voilĂ ! We have a dancer!

She was very patient while I got her tiny slippers on...

... but wasn't sure about the fit at first.

Soon she got the hang of things.

We decided to continue the photo shoot on the front porch to improve the lighting.

A ballerina should spend a little time everyday caring for her flowers.

Sometimes I just can't believe how lucky we got.
