Exhibition

Last night Harper performed at her gymnastics exhibition. It was kind of like a dance recital, but there was no routine and significantly more ways for the kids to sustain life-threatening injuries.

Sorry the pictures aren't great. It was dark and the kids were moving and we were in the back. Still, you'll get the idea.

She had some anxiety at the onset of the performance.

This is where years of balancing precariously on sidewalk gutters and low planters really paid off.

"Butt Cupping" seems to be how Harper centers herself. Both figuratively and literally.

She balanced like this for an uncomfortably long amount of time.

Bless those spotters! They take their lives into their hands with every stray foot and miscalculated landing.

Camera mugging mid-performance.

I'm not really sure what was going on here but, be assured, there was a lot of this kind of thing happening pretty much throughout the entire performance.

Now we're talking! That's beginning to resemble actual gymnastics!

Congratulations to all the little gymnasts!

And now we have this to put on our refrigerator.

Harper was absolutely giddy all evening long. Then, as I was loading the kids into the car to leave, there was this final exchange...
"Mom, was I the best one?"
"Oh, honey! I can tell you really love gymnastics."

We can't wait for the next one!

  1. cute! the hands on the ground are pre-cartwheel devices. They just leap around and then go higher and higher. the butt cupping is hilarious.
